Pitch

Pitch Cards

The video bellow is a video of the locations I scouted for my opening scene. I had the video playing on a loop when doing my pitch.

This is a video of me presenting my Pitch to the class. The footage playing behind me is footage of some locations i looked at. At the end i was asked questions about my movie.

  1. Hi Kristian, Mr Burrowes here. I've viewed your pitch and read the post, and here's a few thoughts:
Its clearly thought through and reflective of a strong genre interest/knowledge. However, there are many issues which will pose problems for getting high marks. Not operating the camera yourself is a major issue! You need to develop that skillset, and this would be a serious issue for marks. Being the lead also makes it hard to see how you can be awarded marks for ‘organising actors’. Your response to Sophie(?)’s question during the pitch about costume raises further issues, as a fairly classic zombie scene and look would help evidence your work on mise-en-scene, something you are trying to steer away from.
If the brief was different (say, a 10 minute short film) I could see this working well, but it will be difficult to get high marks as a film opening – unfortunate, as its so well thought through. TWDead can afford to be slow-burning as a long-form TV drama series; you can’t! Also, whilst I’d encourage taking ideas from TV as much as film, be aware that while MCU/MS/MLS are key for TV with film we also get more use of LS given the expectation of screen size.
I can suggest numerous ways to boost this (campfire, more on costume, zombie gnawing a bone etc), but think you’ll be much better off looking to take some of your ideas and knowledge to work with Bronwen and/or Sophie. With at least two locations, you could each take directorial responsibility for at least one shoot, and have much greater prospects not just for high marks but for making something you’ll end up proud of!

  2. no matter how brief, always add some detail above videos to make it clear what is within them
There should really be a new post: Reflecting on my pitch
